I've learned a new term today. One that I should have picked up on before asking the idiot's question. Redshirt* = disposable character using a name the author knows. How do I know this? From Tinker's Dam on the Baen WebBoard.

Does this mean that I can write my gf into my stories and get away with killing her off everytime? If so, I'm in trouble. You might see me in her next book with my brains splattered on the pavement. (Just joking, hun ;)

On a sidenote, I now have a new mission when I reread an old fav. Find the redshirts! Maybe I'll even put up a tagboard so everyone else can play.
